For more than 50 years the organisation’s primary activities have been geared towards aiding the poor and marginalised, including people with disabilities. GADRA is registered with the South African Revenue Services (SARS) as a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO), as well as with the Department of Social Development as a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO). GADRA seeks to appoint a Director, based in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape. The Director, being the most senior member of staff and reporting directly to the Management Committee, is responsible for the overall management and the implementation of the strategic direction of the organisation, as well as ensuring the availability of the necessary resources for achieving the organisation’s objectives. tarting date: 1 April 2015. Responsibilities: •Support the Management Committee in determining the strategic direction of the organisation and ensuring the development of key associated documents including, but not limited to: strategic plans, budget and fundraising strategies, annual reports and reviews; •Provide oversight and accountability for planning, programme design, delivery of objectives and budgets in compliance with the organisation’s contractual obligations with funders and partners and the organisation’s policies and procedures; •Ensure the delivery of agreed outputs of the programmes in accordance with the established budget and plans, approved by the Management Committee; •Provide day to day leadership and mentoring to staff; •Act as spokesperson for the organisation, representing it in public fora and media; •Fundraising: Manage the relationship with current funders while aiming to develop new relationships with prospective donors i.e. writing/developing reports, proposals, project budgets etc. Requirements: •Extensive organisational management experience, evidenced by previous positions involving administration and direct supervision of staff, ideally in a comparable organisation; •Proven ability to fundraise, as well as financial acumen; •Demonstrated knowledge of the Development/NGO/Civil Society Sector; •Demonstrated experience and capability as a leader within an organisation, as well as the ability to network; •Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; •Valid Drivers’ license essential; •Tertiary qualification with more than five years relevant experience.
