Grand Final Four Cities League MP –v- Bingera MP Lost 2.1 Grand Final of the Inaugural Four Cities League and what an honour it is to be in this game. Firstly a thank you to everyone involved in making this competition happen from administrators to referees. We have watched some spectacular games and the competition can only get better from here. Another huge thank you to our fabulous supporter crowd who have been behind the lads all the way many travelling to other centres to watch the games. Last but not least a huge thank you to the Pastor, Principal, Farmer and Townson for their huge commitment to the lads giving up their weekends to make it all happen. Back to the Grand Final - Whilst the Farmer was surfing in Hawaii & sipping on cocktails listening to tunes from the original Beach Boys I am sure his thoughts were with our own Beach Boys who were battling it out in another close and hard fought game. Bingera probably started the game stronger than us but then about 15 minutes in we started to make this game our own. Our green army was in full force with songs and flag bearers urging the lads on. Walkie did some spectacular saves along with our defensive line of Lobie, Sam, Jake & Matty. To have a clean sheet at full time was an amazing feat. Well done guys! Our mids of Anton, JP, Dom & Ricky worked tirelessly and just did not give up. Our forwards of Hardy, Banksy, Jimmy, JJ & Lindsay also worked very hard without just reward. You could have heard a pin drop at Martens Oval as the full time whistle blew with no score to either team. Did our injured and tired lads have another 30 minutes to put in? Under normal circumstances one would say no after the game they had just played but our boys did us proud as the adrenaline kicked in urged on by the supporters. Although both teams had their chances during the first & second half it wasn’t until the game was in extra time that the game really opened up and created more opportunities. Bingera was first to score followed by another one. When we thought the game was all but over – a corner taken by a determined JP to brother Samy who pushed up from the defense to kick for goal. The keeper punched the ball and Dom got a head to it to successfully find the back of the net. Wow – we are back in the game with only minutes to go. The Beach Boys did not give up til that whistle blew. So proud of not only how they played but the manner in which they played. A team to be very proud of. The crowd favourite was awarded to Anton and if a favourite from the crowd was awarded it was to Zielko for his flag bearing and song mastering. Congratulations to Gympie Diggers for taking the Premiership and to Bingera for taking the Grand Final. Now it’s back to the 1st Div comp in Bundy for the Beach Boys. The season is not over yet and the Beach Boys fully intend to finish on a high – watch this space…..
