Grand Final U12 Girls United V Falcons Sat 13th Sept 2014 The Albury Hockey Centre was a buzz with Grand final fever. United the dominant team all year going in as hot favourites and Falcons the underdogs looked like they were prepared for the big event. The two teams had great support with the run through banners for both sides and with warm conditions anything could happen. Falcons flew out hard with a quick short corner and a goal and the young rebels looked a little bit shell-shocked. EJ Ronnfeldt was pulling out the big shots and finding plenty of run on with Bella Heagney and Tess Palubiski to keep the young rebels in the game. Letesha O’Halloran worked hard up forward and was finally rewarded with a nice push in goal from EJ to tie up at one all. United’s back line was now under the pump and Tahli Bainbridge and Jasmine Bourke had there work cut out for them as Falcons got around them and passed GK Emily Tidd. Falcons now 2-1. Falcons frustrated the young rebels as they tagged EJ and Tess Palubiski and it was paying off as they struck again for another goal and now led 3-1. United had opportunities to goal with several short corners before half time but didn’t have enough luck on there side to score and at half time at 3-1 down they needed some inspiration from coaches Lynne and Kylie. They settled them down and wanted more team work and run on play if they were going to win. Sharakena O’Halloran battled hard also with plenty of run and working well with young guns Rosie Blain and Jasmine Bourke who defied the Falcons attacks to shut them down. Tessa Oates was finding plenty of ball and feeding off to Seana Blain and the youngstars Faith Baker, Ella Ovenden, Zoey James, Jamima Wall and Lydia Ross- Anderson. With 20 mins to go it was now up to the older girls to step up. Tess Palubiski was running like there was no tomorrow as she lifted her work rate and finally with a short corner and a push out from Bella to EJ who slammed home United’s 2nd and you could feel the presence of a come back about to be mounted. The backline still working hard with Tahlia and Jasmine and it was a seesawing game as the crowd of eager parents egged them on. With 4 mins to go United went forward and through some magic Bella Heagney managed to push in a great goal to tie up the game at 3 all. Both teams continued to fight it out and the siren finally sounded and it was now Golden Goal with first goal wins. What a great come back and with the young rebels now sensing victory they went out hard and after several minutes a short corner was produced for United. Bella pushed out and it was time to put the coaches and the United Crowd out of their misery. EJ received and smashed it hard to hit the back of the goals and the Young Rebels had dug deep and came out winner! Premiers U12 Girls 2014! After the game with Presentations, Captain EJ Ronnfeldt spoke and thanked the coaches and crowd then Tahli called up the team members to receive their Premiership medallions. Tess Palubiski was announced Best of Ground and then the League HAW Best & Fairest U12 Girls was awarded to United’s Emma Ronnfeldt winning with 23 votes. It was a fantastic year for the young powerhouse United U12 Girls. Well done and well deserved!. Louisia Dunne
