Grandparent Alienation Is Not Natural via Welcome to Grandparenting Time changes a lot of things. I welcomed another grandchild this week to middle aged parents with numerous degrees between them. In contrast, I was 21 and a soldiers wife when my first was born. I was alone. No one helped....ever! We had no money to pay for help even if we wanted. I had a long, hard road with six kids that I raised pretty much alone because the Dad was running a business. I would have complained but there was no one to care or anyone to jump in to relieve me. I paid for baby sitters when I could, and learned to make every thing from scratch. I did without when I couldnt make ends meet. Today, I am surrounded by daughters, daughter in laws, their friends, etc. They are very pretty, accomplished and many times, well educated women who cannot seem to do anything. They have home cleaning services, dry clean everything, order in food constantly, and enjoy salon days yet......they complain. When they tell me how tough their life is because theyve lost some sleep, I want to scream, What in heavens name did you think having a baby meant? And that they are not burdened with the times I lived through should make they very appreciative. Instead, they all act prima donnas. Friends, am I missing something here? Whats going on? And have any of you seen this too? What do you say to these girls? I feel like Im from the stone age compared to them. (So glad Im back home not seeing everything!)
