Gratitude challenge Day 2 of 8: 1 – I’m grateful to my cardiothoracic surgeon for saving my life three times—the first & second times (1997 & 2004) with coronary bypass surgeries after heart attacks 1 & 2, the third time (2011) by being the only surgeon with balls enough to risk and skill enough to successfully perform a high-risk carotid endarterectomy that the other surgeons wouldn’t try. Even with the extraordinary measures he took to prevent them, several strokes & paralysis resulted from complications beyond his control, but because of him I beat the odds and survived. 2 – While I’m at it... I’m grateful for my two dermatologists who each were sharp enough to catch two of the many cancers I’ve had—early enough for them to be successfully removed and/or treated. The first (1993) a large melanoma, the other (1999) a malignant tumor in my throat. Similarly, I’m grateful for my other doctors who treated me for those and other cancers—oncologist, radiation oncologist, cancer surgeon and ENT surgeon, also saving my life several times. I am currently in remission, but if not for these doctors I would have died many years ago. 3 – last one for today and in that same spirit... I’m grateful to my other doctors, nurses and all the health care professionals who have contributed to either saving my life or making it more bearable & comfortable during many painful medical procedures and recovery from them. You are all Angels...and I love every last one of you! My Gratitude Challenge nominees for today, where for 8 days you list 3 things youre grateful for and in turn nominate 2 more people to do the same, are my sister-in-law Lorri Ponsi and my niece Kathy Ponsi Leahy :)
