Gratitude this morning walkie - gratitude and appreciation for the company of a perky and very elderly dog, for the glistening frost and the sunshine, blue sky and radiant beauty of nature, and for the flock of birds - busy, browsing in the frosty leaves. Gratitude for being alive and knowing that isnt a given sitting alongside health fear and vulnerability. Gratitude for being alive remembering those who are not here - who left too soon, Paul and of course, your beautiful daughter, Rosalind. I felt so heavily the poignancy this morning, a Christmas Eve which should be reflected in Alices fourteen-year-old eyes (and celebrated in Pauls) and is not - and is still beautiful. I dont know how to hold the contradiction other than to feel the pain in my heart and recognise the truth that this pain is a sorrow which is, in its intensity, close to joy. Very much love to you Ros and to you, Michael and to all who grieve and breathe through the pain of loss and grief this Christmas.
