A crypt is an underground room or vault (beneath a church), built to hold a casket in a concrete or stone chamber. A mausoleum is a large, stately tomb, often built above ground. A tomb is a general term, which may include the above, but generally for most people is a simple grave. And more: A catacomb is an underground cemetery consisting of chambers or tunnels with recesses for graves. A sepulchre is a small room or monument, cut in rock or built of stone, in which a dead person is laid. A columbarium is a room or building with niches for cremation urns. A sarcophagus is a stone coffin, typically associated with ancient Egypt, Rome, and Greece. An ossuary is a container or room for the bones of the dead.
