Great! Monday! Morning! beautimous outside! hope everyone has a terrific start to a new week with lots of new adventures on the horizon, cause You never know whats just round that corner ;-) and yeah--my all-time Top 20 songs are finalized :-) but before We take a look at them, let’s look at 6 songs that dropped out of the Top 20—more dropping out in 2014 than have since 2005: (7 to 22) Something More than This – October Project (11 to 28) Fast Car – Tracy Chapman (12 to 32) Moonshadow – Cat Stevens (13 to 21) Under Pressure – Queen/David Bowie (17 to 41) Sacrifice – Sinead O’Connor/Elton John (20 to 25) We Don’t Need Another Hero – Tina Turner each of these songs are incredibly meaningful to me. October Project has been a mainstay in the Top 20 since the late 90s with “Something More Than This” but this year they weren’t played much, though the song still deeply resonates. the same is true for Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car”—actually that entire “Tracy Chapman” first album still ranks at #7 in my Top 10 albums of all-time. and “Moonshadow” has been in and out of the Top 20 since i started keeping personal charts. it harks back to college days, as does “Under Pressure” good memories, a big point of music for me. as well, the entire Elton John block, led by Sinead O’Connor’s remake of “Sacrifice” tumbled from 17 to 41 this year. this includes Elton tunes, Kate Bush’s “Rocket Man” and of course “Circle of Life” from The Lion King. love all these songs, but this year they were not big players… but most notable is Tina’s drop out of the Top 20. She has been in there since the early 90s with “We Don’t Need Another Hero” an all-time favorite for many reasons, but mainly because of what it says. every word in this song can be applied today, because We don’t need heroes. the truth in this acknowledgment is astounding. my take: We are all “heroes” and to separate out someone--anyone--as a “hero” is unnecessary. We need everyone, ordinary people like You and me, to make a difference. the concept of heroes and heroism is lost on me, and this song says that best. and subbing almost any contemporary concept or idea for the word thunderdome works here--say politics or the USA or a divided world or poverty or greed etc so here is Tina with Her greatest hit for me personally and “We Don’t Need Another Hero” lyrics: out of the ruins, out from the wreckage cant make the same mistake this time We are the children, the last generation We are the ones they left behind and i wonder when We are ever gonna change living under the fear till nothing else remains We dont need another hero We dont need to know the way home all We want is life beyond the thunderdome looking for something We can rely on theres got to be something better out there Love and compassion, their day is coming all else are castles built in the air and i wonder when We are ever gonna change living under the fear till nothing else remains all the children say We dont need another hero We dont need to know the way home all We want is life beyond the thunderdome so what do We do with our lives? We leave only a mark will Our story shine like a Light or end in the dark? is it all or nothing? We dont need another hero, hero We dont need to know the way home all We want is life beyond thunderdome all the children say We dont need another hero We dont need to know the way home all We want is life beyond the thunderdome Peace & Music https://youtube/watch?v=Gcm-tOGiva0
