Great Q & A Exchange with a number Indian Academicians & Policy Advisers Last NIGHT : WHATSAPP GROUP Question: Why Indian Malaysian Employment from (2005)3.1% shoot up to (2010) 4.3% ? Source : JOMO Msian@50 My Answer Greetings, I am very skeptical with the numbers posted as I would imagine the real unemployment among Indian Malaysian(IM) should be in the vicinity of 5% to 7% : However, Indian Unemployment is 70% more of Chinese and 10% more the the Malaysia : WHY? The son/daughters of Urban Poverty Group - That were CHASED out of ESTATES in the name of Development in the 1980s and 1990s ( during this time Indian Msian (IM) unemployment was in the vicinity of 7% to 11&) : Is now entering the JOB MARKETS. With HIGH dropout rates : 46% of the Indian Msian (IM)Students ends their education at the level of SPM (GCE O Level Equivalent) they are resorting to odd jobs, Temporary Labor,Temp business, Lorry Assistance Hard Labor, Gangsters, Tarik Kereta, Besi Buruk, Smuggling Team, Drug Pushers, Bouncers, Hit man, Bodyguard, along money collectors, politicians allekai , some considerable numbers are in jail and etc. of course being a minorities all this numbesr do reflect significantly in any statistics. While the JOB creations by the economy is mostly for Specialty & Soft Skill Base with strong paper qualifications : So, unskilled Indian Malaysian Indian continue to miss out in sharing the growth prosperity or effected by the growth at all. Matter of fact INDONESIAN Labors benefits more then Indian Malaysian Labor during this property and growth boom. Legal & Illegal. While Non-Skill job market is flooded with Illegal & Legal Foreign workers that is ready to work in slavery like work conditions with peanut like salary and employer abuses. So the unemployment will continue to rise if we fail to tackle the dropouts and re-skill them with basics to survive. I project 2015 the um-employment among Indian Malaysian those entering job market will continue to rise to 5% - 6%. WHAT NEED NOW? We have to RE-SKILL Non Skilled Indian :to new job requirement like 1) - Bus Drivers Guards, Agricultural, Construction Supervisors, Machinery Operators ( Crane) and etc. Singapore is the biggest EMPLOYER of Indian Malaysian LABOR due to salary and work condition for the same job. About more then 80K Idnian Malaysian Youths employed from Petrol Pump, Harbor, F&B, Hotel, Guard, Public Transport and etc. 2) Reduce the number of Illegal and Legal Foreign Immigrant workers to control the salary and labor supply to create better working environment. 3) NGOs and Community must come forward to tackle this issue by offering help, awareness and support . Tomorrow is what we do today and now..... Are doing it? Arun Dorasamy
