Great article .... hits on a few key mistakes theyve made in the last 20 years ... #1 is trying to be popular and be liked by everyone. Forget it. Rock is about being someone, and some people will always hate you when youre someone. #2 Megalomania is passe. Its a social world now. We dont need rock stars we need people. #3 No one cares about you saving Africa when youre a rich person, they just want you to be real. Help others on your own time because to real people that just feels good. #4 The best move they could make now is scrap all the producers and write a rock record that has integrity. Unlikely without a major wake up call to Bono specifically who wants to be popular and a star. Hes a good person, Im sure of that, they all are good people, but Bono has lost his way in a megalomania that is uniquely understandable by Ireland and its Catholic natives. Kanye West isnt from Ireland is he? Finally I have to say that if this very same record was mixed and mastered more rock and less pop, and ordered in a new way, it could actually be very cool. The whole production is off for 2014. Too many cooks in the kitchen and too much hype and pressure around it. Not an organic process at all. Specifically if the vocal was blended and slap delayed and distorted and a more dirty drum and bass vibe a la The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys or young artist clients like Hamish Keith Anderson or Delta Spirit have was added it would GROUND this music in something real and REAL is COOL. Pop Rock sucks ... no one cares. A modern rock star needs to be a real person with something to say. Its all about connection, not stardom.
