Great design student job opportunity! ____________________________________ Graphic Design Student Assistant FOUNDATION for CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES Category: Student Assistant/Part-time/Non-exempt Supervisor: Advancement Manager Job Purpose The Graphic Design Student Assistant position provides an excellent opportunity for a student to gain hands-on experience working with an award-winning communications team. The Graphic Design Student Assistant will assist with designing and developing communications pieces, creating materials for print and web applications, preparing projects for print production, and providing general communications support services (adapted to the skills and interest of the student). The position is a part-time, non-exempt position that reports to the Advancement Manager, working closely with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator and the entire communications team. The work location is at the Foundation office, 1102 Q Street, Sacramento. Duties and Responsibilities · Assists with designing and producing marketing materials (logos, branded promotional items, brochures, posters, flyers, and web site and social media graphics) to promote Foundation programs, services, and visual brand. · Acts as part of the Communications and Technology team, providing a range of general project and administrative support as needed to help successfully implement external and internal marketing and communications strategies. · Contributes to a team effort by participating in group brainstorming sessions, working with project teams, and completing other assignments as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities · Creative thinking, with a solid sense of layout and design and excellent attention to detail. · Awareness of current design trends and ability to translate into day-to-day work · Intermediate to advanced experience with Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. · Comfortable with an iterative design process that includes accepting and managing constructive criticism. · Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. · Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and PowerPoint. · Understanding of web browsers and web-based applications. · Ability to communicate the status of projects and predict problems with deadlines. · Ability to work well with all levels of staff and management in a collaborative environment. Other Qualities (not required) · Knowledge of printing processes, materials, and techniques. · Experience with setting files up for print production and pre-press. · Basic understanding of HTML/CSS. · Photography and/or video production experience. · Interest or experience in a non-profit or educational environment. Education and Experience · Currently enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning. Undergraduate students must be currently enrolled in six (6) semester units or nine (9) quarter units; graduate students must carry at least four (4) semester or six (6) quarter units at an accredited college or university to be eligible. All students must maintain a cumulative GPA of a 2.0. · Pursuing a degree in graphic design or a related field. Physical Requirements · Ability to work at a computer workstation for periods up to four hours at a time. · Ability to sit for up to three hours without breaks at meetings. · Ability to walk and stand for up to four hours without breaks. · Ability to perform repetitive movements, such as typing, filing, and the use of commonly used office machines and supplies. · Ability to lift and move a minimum of 10 pounds.
