Great fun at Oxnard schools recently! Our Oxnard Music Advocacy Group held music assemblies at about half of the elementary schools. With instruments courtesy of the New West Symphony, 6th grade students learned about the makeup of orchestras and had the opportunity to experiment a few minutes with several different instruments. For many, it was their first-ever chance to do so. What joy when they coaxed out a music-like sound! Hopefully it will not be their only chance. For academic, social, and personal reasons, students need a full curriculum, including music.
