Great job opportunity at People First of Ontario! People First of Ontario to launch a new initiative: “Our Community, Our Lives: Strengthening Ontario Communities for Active Living and Social Inclusion” Over the next two and a half years, People First of Ontario will play an active role in strengthening communities throughout Ontario. This exciting new initiative funded by the Government of Canada (Human Resources Skills Development Canada - HRSDC) will engage five communities in building their capacity to connect people and opportunities by removing barriers to full participation and inclusion for all. The initiative will assist communities to: Develop a definition of what active living and social inclusion means for people with disabilities. Identify the barriers and good practices that strengthen the community and its members. Host workshops and events that bring people together, learning from one another. Develop tools and resources to be shared broadly A provincial advisory group will work with two provincial coordinators, five local community leads and networks of people within those communities. An exciting and well-resourced work plan has been mapped out for the next two and a half years that will strengthen community and raise the voice of people who have a disability. A coordinated effort to; host awareness forums, workshops and training opportunities, and build capacity of people with disabilities will empower these communities for change by bringing voice to the issues and barriers that keep people from full participation. People First of Ontario is excited about this initiative and look forward to its success. More information will be available shortly.
