Great quote from the r/Vancouver subreddit about the ongoing teachers strike in BC I just need to air my complaint against these entitled workers. In the first place, most of us need to work 48-50 weeks out of the year. No long summer vacations, no winter breaks at Christmastime, no week off in March. We also need to do actual work, hard work, not just passing out information, sitting at a desk, or showing up to meetings. Im talking about people who make salaries well in excess of the provincial average ( about ~$70,000). And this includes even the bad workers. After theyre in, theres so little personal accountability. Their jobs are protected, so even the awful ones cant be jettisoned. On top of this, they get generous pensions! What right do they have to complain about teachers making too much money? • Annual work days: 71 days (which apparently was too much to handle last year) • Salary: $101,859, and thats before additional salaries are added!: An additional $50,929.50 for MLAs, $91,673.10 for the Premier. My, wouldnt it be nice to be an MLA! Its really sad Premier Clark decided to boost the pay of her staff and left no money for the teachers. Obviously the BCTF has issues, but the fact remains that teachers have one of the most important jobs in the country.
