Greetings, Counsels of the International Criminal Court. While I - TopicsExpress

Greetings, Counsels of the International Criminal Court. While I am sure you are all restless and a bit nervous to get on with the trail of Omar al Bashir, a few pointers; 1) Please know the basics of the Rome Statute. We dont expect you to be experts, but please have a basic knowledge of it. 2) Please have a more then basic knowledge about the Dafur situation in Sudan, its past history and its current state. (Unlike other traditional committees, you cannot pass three days here without talking.) Please refer to the Study Guide as a starting point of the same. 3) For the Defense Team: Remember, you dont represent a country. Only one man. It is your one and only job to make sure he walks free. Even though the burden of proof is on the Prosecution, it does not mean that your job will be any easier. 4) For the Prosecution Team: Please be aware of what he is being charged with. 5) Do not work thinking about the prizes. Work as a team, even though only one individual will win. Team work will be highly appreciated by the Bench. 6) Always remember that you would be in a court hall. Please observe minimum decorum at all times. (We would hate to hold you for Contempt of Court.) 7) The Rules of Procedure would be clearly explained in the Session 0. They will be very simple and easy to follow. Hence if you have no idea about the RoP, do not panic. (The time for panic comes later.) 8) The ICC is more about how you think on your feet to use your facts and the law to prove your point. So do not come with a rigid mindset regarding your strategy and be willing and quick to adapt. 9) All newspaper reports, articles would be considered as refutable sources of evidence and can be considered as proved facts unless challenged by the opposing team. 10) Last but not the least. Be ready to suite up.! B| All the best. Let Justice (or your Client) Be Served. Sourya Banerjee Vice President ICC
