Greetings Sports Fans! Welcome to another week in YOUR Tidy Bowl Football League! First things first: This will be a farewell game for Tidy Veteran, Hall-of-Famer, and super-fan-favorite Jason “Impala” Hodgson, who’s moving across the Pond to start a job in Jolly-Ole-London! If he has time (and if you do) let’s celebrate his last game afterward at the Firehouse! We’ll definitely miss the Impala at the Grate Field. With just about eight games left in the regular season, every one counts. The same was true last week in a small-game (3 on 3 plus 1) matchup as the Gorgons took on the Harpies. The Gorgons (“Abrams Tank” Conrad, “Rabid” Abby, and Velan “Toutatis”) won the rock pick and elected to receive the opening kickoff. The Gorgon offense was largely an aerial assault led by rookie sensation Toutatis. There’s lots of talk of mobile QBs in the NFL and whether or not they can play a 16 game season. Toutatis has started about 18 games already this season. Although not quite the scrambler you might see in a Russell Wilson, Toutatis is dangerous when flushed from his pocket. Add to that his great consistency when throwing the ball, and you have an all-star Tidy QB on your hands. Toutatis’s number-1 target in this game was TE Tank, and the two connected for a couple of TD passes. The uneven teams meant that there was less urgency in protecting against the blitz, giving the big guy time to break free down the field. Keeping the Harpies’ DBs honest were the Gorgon slot and wide receivers who were also adept at undercutting the coverages, using the center as a blocker, and running the ball on some of the trickier Gorgon plays. This is a role basically designed for the skills of the explosive quickness of Rabid Abby and the shifty moves of Mary “That Gopher from Caddy Shack” Blair. With Caddy-Shack playing all-time offense, the Gorgons looked formidable from the outset. However, the offensive powerhouse on the field lay firmly in the Harpies’ (Carl “Entropy” Mehling, “La Brisa” Balcarcel, and “Briandroid” Shearer) territory. With their QB-by committee approach, they kept the Gorgon D guessing. Because of the all-time offensive player, it was tough to keep coverages tight on the hurry-up plays when the QB constantly rotated. The Harpies capitalized on this beautifully and were able to make use of their multiple throwing- and receiving-threats. That might have been enough to win the game for the Harpies, but the defense was also really clicking. With a constant threat of pass-rush by Tidy’s no. 1 blitzer, the constant threat of INT by the ballhawking Briandroid, and the powerful, line-jamming and D-line-plugging Entropy, the Harpies had this game well in hand. Highlights of this one included a critical 4th down conversion on a pass from La Brisa to Entropy, a big TD score from TE Entropy, and heroic feats of speed by Briandroid. Although a great game, this game always belonged to the Harpies. They bring this one home in a 7-4 victory. MVP Gorgons: Having had the opportunity to go out for several long passes (including two TDs) from Toutatis, Jack “Abrams Tank” Conrad (TE, C, MLB) had an unusually strong game last week. Based on recommendations from three Tidy Bowlers, he earns the MVP nod. MVP Harpies: It was a good week for TEs and LBs… Carl “Entropy” Mehling (TE, C, QB, DT, MLB) had a strong game all around. With some solid throws, some _really_ solid blocking, and tight defensive coverage, Entropy was a game-changer for his team. Nominated by his primary QB and supported by others, he easily gets another MVP nod on the 2013 season. And… That’s your recap. Remember: It’s a farewell game for long-time Tidy pillar Impala! Come see him in his glory! Commish
