Greetings Team Quantum, I wanted to write and update everybody about Quantum’s recent success at the Farr 40 World Championship. As we go forward I am confident that our sailmaking competition, who is very good, may misrepresent the facts about Plenty and or our Quantum program. • In the 2013 season Plenty sailed with a full professional speed team and tactician with N sails. Finishing 7th at the world championship in Newport. • End of 2013 Plenty owner Alex Roepers hired me to organize his program for 2014. His stated goal was to win the Farr 40 World championship. • Plenty purchased 3 North sails and 3 Quantum sails at the end of 2013 to compare for the first event of the season and choose the better sail. (At this point I was still not aligned with any supplier and the pro’s on the boat made the decision to use Quantum over North). • The sails on Plenty were evolutions of the Barking Mad program of 2013. • Plenty sails were designed by Dave Armitage. • The sails used are standard Quantum sails that your customers can also order. • Plenty results in 2014 o 1st place at World Championship, North American Championship, Big Boat Series, and California Cup o 1st place season championship o 2nd place midwinter championship. Struntje Light (4th overall) serviced by Jason Currie • Struntje had there best performance in a world championship finishing the event 4th and boat of the day on race day 2 and 4 of the event. • Struntje owner was a long time supporter and friend of N sails and his conversion to Q was a big statement. His result even bigger. • Jason Currie, Quantum Annapolis, trimmed on the boat and helped manage the sail program. • Struntje sails designed by Dave Armitage • Standard headsails • Mainsail slight tweak in batten 5,6,7 to have a straighter exit. VERY fast at this event. Estate Master (2nd overall) owner Martin Hill no Q representative onboard • Sails designed by Dave Armitage with input from Darren Jones a.k.a. Twirler. • Standard jibs and spinnakers • Slightly deeper mainsail per trimmer request. Regatta facts: • Quantum sails won 6 of 7 races • Quantum boats finished 1,2,4 • Only North boat to win a race was Kokomo all 3di raw inventory with Jim Richardson on the helm. • Enfant Terrible 2013 world champion used 3DL mainsail and light 1. 3di raw medium and heavy. • Transfusion 2011 World champion same as ET. • Quantum designer Dave Armitage was on-sight for the first 4 days leading into racing. • Quantum Sails Pacific was awesome in helping with servicing and measuring. Jeff Thorpe and Ben Mercer were excellent in assisting with the class and service during the events. As a Quantum employee I was so proud of the work Ben was doing everyday at the event. Van parked front and center with logo on display, friendly, easy to deal with just an all around good guy! Thank you Ben you are a great asset to Quantum and I hope that I am as good of a representative as you! The development of the Plenty program has been 20 years in the making. Alex and I sailed the very first 40 world championship crewing on Phish Food. We maintained a personal and professional relationship over that time. The point here is never underestimate where the best customers may be sailing. When we discussed this season I never promised him success. I only promised what I knew I could deliver on, quality sails, people, and a work ethic that would not be matched by our competition. Our sails are very good. Are they better then the N sails? Our flying shapes I believe are faster and yet we will continue to refine our consistency in every sail. Andrew has worked relentlessly on helping this aspect of our 40 program and it was great to see all the hard work on display. Please feel free to call or skype with any comments or questions.
