Greetings! We have received this from Dr. Steven Crawford, NH State Veterinarian, regarding the recent outbreaks in the Pacific Northwest. Although it has not been identified in the Northeast at this time, it is something that any poultry owner should keep on the radar. High Path Avian Influenza Alert!!!! Two strains of High Pathogenic Avian Influenza, H5N8 and H5N2, have been isolated from birds in the Pacific Northwest. H5N8 was found in a backyard flock in Oregon. No commercial operations are affected, but some migratory birds are carrying these viruses. There is no known human disease associated with these viruses.
