Greetings and Salutations Merrick County! I want to thank the Central City Chamber of Commerce and the Merrick County Citizens for a pleasant evening. The candidates were each given three questions to answer, an additional comment section and 5 minutes to respond. I would like to post the questions and my answers. 1. Why did you decide to run for this office? a. I ran for this office for 2 reasons: First I was asked by some citizens of Merrick County who knew me from when I was a deputy here approximately 4 yrs. ago. They have faith in my ability to fix the Merrick County Sheriffs Office. b. The second reason I ran is that it is an opportunity to advance in my career field. And in doing that I have the opportunity to help a larger number of people with what I have learned over the years with my training, experience and knowledge. 2. What is our vision for the Merrick County Sheriffs Office 3 to 5 years from now? a. My vision is to put together a team at the Merrick County Sheriffs Office that the people will trust, work with and be proud to say this is our Merrick County Sheriffs Office.... b. It is also my vision to give the Merrick County citizens answers to questions when they ask and to ensure that all the calls are answered. My goal is to see the citizens working hand-in-hand with Merrick County law enforcement for a safer tomorrow. 3. What is the greatest challenge and or opportunity you see for the Merrick County Sheriffs Office? a. The greatest challenge for the Sheriff is gaining the trust and support of the Merrick County community, to get the citizens and law enforcement working together. Due to citizens and law enforcement not working together, crimes go unsolved. Then citizens lose faith in their law enforcement, they feel nothing gets done and calls go unanswered. Then both the citizens and law enforcement become discouraged. One person cannot do this alone, it takes a combined effort. b. The greatest opportunity for the Sheriff is the chance to create a law enforcement agency that is a community-wide agency and to make the Merrick County Sheriffs Office the best small sheriffs office in the State of Nebraska. In closing I would like to leave you with these words from the great Vince Lombardi, The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.
