Greetings to all! So much has been accomplished, it is astonishing to recognize this is just the 4th meeting! From tiny acorns...mighty oaks, yes? Yes!! Penciled on the Wednesday agenda: · Update on the Salvation Army’s remarkable progress since deciding to build a garden. · The Downtown Project Community Gardens Program update · Arts and Gardens · FoodHub of Clark County · Inclusion! · Next steps What: Community Garden Steering Committee When: August 14th at 2 pm Where: Cooperative Extension 8050 Paradise Road Suite 100 Las Vegas, NV 89123 Last month: The Executive Director of Green Chips, Rick Van Diepen, presented on their upcoming web portal. For those that have not met the fabulous Rick or know of the organization: Green Chips is a unique public/private partnership to encourage environmental sustainability initiatives in Southern Nevada. In response to the needs of the global environment, Green Chips is helping local residents and businesses take real steps to reduce environmental impacts. The Mission of Green Chips is to strengthen and accelerate sustainable community initiatives in Southern Nevada through the creation of strategic public-private partnerships committed to open collaboration and broad based community engagement. The Toolbox Group has made amazing strides in developing the “how to grow a garden” checklist (people, water, resources, regulations, sustainability....) that is based on experience in developing gardens and deep understanding of the rules and regulation and from lessons learned by building! This will be an invaluable resource for future gardens, gardeners, and our community. It will be housed on the Cooperative Extension web page...stay tuned.
