Grenada-based artist of Jamaican decent Malaika Brooks-Smith-Lowe will be the third full time resident artist at New Local Space in Kingston, Jamaica this coming December. Recently, NLS had a chat with her on their monthly podcast IN about her current work and her plans for the residency. Malaika’s residency at NLS will be a multimedia inquiry into her Jamaican maternal grandfather’s very first memory of migration, his mother leaving him at the age of four, as well as the legacy and psychological impact of his experience.
