Guardian Arsenal, Barca, others clash on DStv’s SuperSport as Europe nears kick off Thursday, 31 July 2014 22:50 Written by Moshood Aliyu Category: Abroad WITH the start of the international football season just a fortnight away, clubs are intensifying their preseason activities, breaking the bank for the summer’s most coveted players and travelling further from home in search of the perfect preparation. SuperSport also says its is boosting its current pre-season football offering with the addition of the Emirates Cup, the annual four-team tournament hosted by Arsenal as well as a host of other friendlies featuring the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Barcelona, Werder Bremen and Napoli. This year’s Emirates Cup will include Portuguese champions Benfica, Spanish side Valencia and big-spending Monaco. The August 2–3 tournament could also see Colombian sensation Radamel Falcao making his long-awaited return from injury which forced him to miss the World Cup. Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have taken their pre-season preparations to the US in an effort to promote German football to an audience starting to embrace football in a big way. Thrown into the mix are two friendly matches, against Mexico’s Club Guadalajara and an MLS All Star team, a match that will see World Cup winners Philip Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze returning to action.
