Guillaume Dufay (Du Fay), the Franco/Flemish composer, died this day in 1474. He was born c.1400 and he was the most influential composer in Europe in the mid 1400s. His music conveys the power and beauty of his age, with quite exquisite word-painting that is rarely eclipsed or even paralleled by composers who followed after him. This extract from Ave Maris Stella starts with chant and is then followed by beautiful bare-lined polyphony that exemplifies his style and character of writing superbly. youtu.be/O-25R_SaDao
