Gypsy - by yours truly Her heart slipped from her grasp And she watched, Helpless, As it tumbled to the ground And all of her treasures spilled out One on top of another. There it was then, Laid bare for all to see. Her mess of broken trinkets, And fractured mirrors, Fabrics frayed and tattered. But as the sun rose unfettered In the cloudless sky, The heap of it transformed Into a sparkling discord. It glittered in a cacophony Of memories and appetites, Injuries and victories, And insatiable curiosity. Prisms of light Refracted from the melee And every color of the universe Contended at once with the others. It was a resplendent confusion Shimmering upon the desert sand. And yet she fell to her knees beside it, Hurriedly raking it in with her arms. Then she shoved the lot of it Back inside its plain burlap pouch, Which she tied, This time, With a double knot.
