Gypsy I had to have my dog, Gypsy, put to sleep a few days - TopicsExpress

Gypsy I had to have my dog, Gypsy, put to sleep a few days ago. I had two choices – to leave her like she is or make her comfortable. I chose comfort. She had 14 years…14 good years and I just didn’t have the heart to keep her alive any longer. Gypsy had gone lame and there was “probably” not much that could be done for her. At best, she “might” get better and get some of her strength back in her hind legs, but not without a lot of pain and hard work. Her arthritis was bad and there wasn’t much hope. She had her best years behind her and she deserved…no, she earned the chance to have some comfort. She was my “take her to CE Software dog” She went to work with me, she went traveling with me, she crawled into bed with me. She was a lot of fun and could be ornery! The two things I will miss the most is how she would “chase people’s feet”. The guys I worked with at CE taught her this. They would come into my office and then stick their feet under my desk and move them real quick. Gypsy would chase them and gently (sometimes) nip their feet. They all got a kick out of it, but it ceased to be funny when they started wearing sandals! She loved to chase my granddaughter and nip at her feet. Maddie soon learned to “walk VERY slow” around her! When we lived on the river in South Dakota, there was a mountain lion that lived near us. One night I heard it roar and Gypsy begged to go out. I let her out, not thinking anything about it. A few minutes later I heard this wild, pissed off roar, opened the door and Gypsy came running as fast as she could. (She could run like a deer because she was long legged and young). If a dog EVER had a smile on their face, it was when she came in that night. She had somehow pissed off the mountain lion and was pretty proud of that! Her best friend was my other dog, Winston. They loved each other. I can see the both of them now…Winston sitting on his rump to keep Gypsy from nipping him and if she did, he’s throw her down and then the playing would begin for them. You’re back together again, Gypsy and Winston. I loved you both…still do…always will. You both made me very happy and you made me laugh. Love, Sue
