H.E. Ambassador James Moran, Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt reiterated that developing cultural heritage is important not only from a cultural standpoint but also from a socioeconomic development perspective. In Egypt, income generated by cultural heritage – mainly tourism- has generated an important contribution to the countrys economy, Moran said in his speech during the launching the works of the “Revival of the Egyptian Museum” in the East Wing of the Tutankhamun Gallery held at the Egyptian Museum and attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb and several Ministers and EU member states Ambassadors. The European Union has allocated a 92,500 Euros- to the restoration of room 15 as well as various community development and education activities related to of the East wing of the Tutankhamun Gallery at the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities. We hope that this will also help mobilize further resources- from European partners as well as from other donors – to restore and modernize this important jewel of our joint, Egyptian and European, heritage, Moran said. He added that Egyptian and European have worked together for hundreds of years and since the birth of modern Egyptology, reiterating that Europe has played a prominent role in the protection and promotion of Egypts Heritage
