H. Lipstick Blonde. A rather intriguing hosta by Danny van Euchaute. It is a cross of Grannys Rouge × Designer Genes. A deep red color travels up the petioles well into the midrib of the leaves. The coloration should get more intense as the clump matures. It is one which I believe was introduced to the public just this year. A piece of it was a donation to the Fall Hosta Forum auction, and the winning bidder is just thrilled with getting it! A Side Note: At the Fall Hosta Forum, I heard a rather interesting comment from Don Dean. He noted Q&Z Nursery was shutting down its operations, and told us, in his opinion, that its demise would only serve to drive up hosta prices to the retail consumer. I found this rather thought-provoking, since I had no idea they were shutting down. How large of a presence did they hold in the hosta market? What was their market share? Will their disappearance actually serve to dramatically raise hosta prices up overall? Will we be reverting back towards a marketplace where field - grown or Originator Stock hostas will regain their prominence? Id appreciate your comments!
