H.R. 3086, the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act (PITFA), is up for a vote in the House this week! This is a huge development and could be the most important example of taxpayer protection legislation to come out of the 113th Congress. To make sure we get the votes needed to pass this crucial bill and send it to the Senate, we need your help. Please take a moment and contact your legislators to tell them you support the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act. TAKE ACTION https://secure3.convio.net/ntu/site/Advocacy;jsessionid=9178F9C7FF47EC261F9F224FE3227F63.app324a?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=1697 PITFA is a critically important bill that would permanently ban taxes on Internet access. With the current moratorium scheduled to expire in November, the clock is ticking on keeping the Internet free from discriminatory taxation. Since 1998, Congress has barred state and local governments from imposing new or discriminatory taxes on Internet access. This has helped save your family money as well as created a dynamic environment where the Internet is thriving and bringing advanced communication capabilities to millions of people. Keeping the burden of new government-manded access charges off Internet service has made entry to the Information Superhighway more affordable to Americans from all walks of life. However, if Congress doesn’t act quickly, taxpayers could be bombarded with an onslaught of new predatory “fees” and taxes. That’s because the 1998 federal ban will expire in November … and don’t forget, Congress will only be in session a few weeks between now and then! Taxpayers need long-term protection from state and local authorities seeking to add taxes to the various routes consumers use to access the Internet, and PITFA is the best safeguard against this threat. Tell your lawmakers to keep Internet access open for all! https://secure3.convio.net/ntu/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=1697 Thank you for taking action and spreading the word on this important issue. Sincerely, Nan Swift, Federal Affairs Manager P.S. Time is running out and taxes on Internet access could soon pile up – tell your lawmakers to vote “yes” on PITFA, today! https://secure3.convio.net/ntu/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=1697
