H picks 010415 I opened up the face book page and heard of an earthquake- my daughter is out there in Kern County so naturally I worry- called and she was fine buying herself a schemata in a department store- meanwhile the snow is falling in the crowded northeast if it stays below 32 degree might get a foot or so- but in all likelihood just a couple of inches of ice and a pain in the ass – mush! Santa Anita racing continues to make little sense to me- as I continue of 47 year streak of ineptitude at the great race place- Callback ran OK paying $13.40 for place but at the pace of improvement I’m going at it will be 2097 before I can manage 3 winners at Santa Anita on a race card and I suppose they would all have to be 1 to five shots—couple of long shots came in at Gulfstream park allowing the day to be something less than a horror- my two picks at Fair Grounds came in and a couple of winners at the Big A and another day was edited onto the cutting room floor- Sunday puts the 2014-15 holiday season to rest and it will be to another 11 months of grinding it out until Turkey day 2015- meanwhile a week from now will be the 19th an anniversary of the day our son Robert was killed – he was on his way to school on January 10th 1996 when he was struck and killed by an automobile- He would have been 34 years old this past Thanksgiving- he was a good kid- and never got a chance to live his life- it is horrible- and this week is always taxing on whatever sanity remains in me- there is no lesson to be learned from the death of a child, no moral- no words which soothe – and as the years go past only the sharpness of the blade is dulled but it still is plunged deep into the hearts of his surviving kin- Life is a battle between the dark and the light- the flesh is here today and gone tomorrow but what is it that animates us in our minds- the life spirit? When the body is no longer useful laying in the middle of the road- what happens to the force which is inside of a human- is it just chemicals dispersing and going off in every direction – is it the conservation of matter a porridge to be reassembled when ever Nature feels like it-? Does a person go to heaven? And what about someone who has had a number of husbands of wife’s? When they get to heaven who do they spend their time with? What if husband #1 has been waiting forty years on his cloud and his wife shows up with her new husband! Is there fighting in heaven? “Hey Mac, That is my wife!
