HABAKKUK DECLARES HIS TRUST IN GOD (Habakkuk 3:17-19) These last verses attest to Habakkuks determination to unwavering trust God, even during difficulties that could cause ones faith to crumble. Fig trees and vines failing were a weakness in the earth, leading to hunger and economic strife; the same resulted from the failings of the fields and the flocks. The entire basis for life in Judah could have been dissolved, and yet the Lords prophet would continue to trust Him. He confessed his faith, even though he had questions and doubts: I will rejoice in the LORD; I will exult in the God of salvation. GOD, the Lord, is my strength (Hab. 3:18-19, NRSV). Habakkuk declared the Lord God was his strength. The Lord strengthened the prophet and made him as sure-footed as a deer. the image of a deer recalls its incredible balance and stability even in the most difficult terrain. Deer are known to stand firmly and navigate the greatest heights and steepest cliffs. In the midst of great distress, we can also be secure in knowing that our God will strengthen us and cause us to be victorious. When we go through various tests and trails, with the right attitude toward God, we can be cleansed and purified in the process. In the midst of our suffering, we should look to our loving God who promised to be our salvation. We gain strength when we trust and rejoice in the praise of our Lord. Not only did the prophet Habakkuk decide to trust God, he also resolved to be joyful in Him. Why should we be sad when we know that God is at work on our behalf no matter how bleak the situation may appear? Habakkuk made a personal declaration when He said, I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation As believers, we can have confidence and trust in God while knowing that He is able to dliver us in our trials regardless of the circumstances. We may not understand Gods plan even when He answers us through prayer, but we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose (Rom. 8:28, NRSV). Knowing and believing this will help us respond in trust to our sovereign God. Habakkuk declared that he would trust God no matter what, even in the midst of utter despair and devastation. Even in the face of famine and ruin, Habakkuk was determined to trust in the Almighty God. just as Habakkuk found strength and courage in the midst of suffering,so can we. In midst of what appeared to be utter defeat and disaster, god delivered His people. We must remember that our God is the supreme Ruler of all and is in charge of everything in heaven and on earth. He will accomplish His plan according to His perfect will and perfect timing. Scripture tells us that Gods ways are above our ways and beyond our comprehension. Therefore, we can trust Him to do whats best for us even though we may not understand what He is doing. If we remember that God is holy, good, and loving, then we have nothing to fear.
