HACU Career Opportunities The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) is currently seeking professionals for the following positions: Assistant Director of Development: Under the supervision of the Chief Development & Marketing Officer, plans, organizes, directs and coordinates ongoing and special fundraising programs. Will assist in all aspects of the development and fundraising for the organization, including but not limited to the following: assist with strategic planning for the department; research, prepare & collaborate in writing grants; assist with implementation of grants awarded/received; assist in cultivation and maintaining of sponsors/partners, MOUs, and annual fundraising campaigns. Will assist in the coordination and implementation of deliverables for conference sponsors/partners. Bachelor’s degree in related area and one to two years of development, fundraising, and/or grant writing experience. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other PC-based software. Experience in writing and implementing grants. Excellent verbal and writing skills. Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred. Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus. Travel required. (Located in San Antonio, TX) Chief Advocacy Officer: The position aids the President & CEO of HACU in directing and coordinating activities for the function of Congressional and Federal Administration relations. Develops and implements action plans to establish or enhance relationships with government, policy centers, Hispanic and other minority organizations and higher education associations. Assists the association’s President & CEO in tracking and addressing of policy and legislation by performing the following: facilitate and organize meetings, conference/symposia with government/federal agencies, Hispanic-Serving institutions, and other groups; write, publish and disseminate the legislative alert announcements, briefs and newsletters for timely distribution to membership and other target groups; monitor and evaluate pending legislation and regulations in development and identify their impact on Hispanic-Serving institutions; serve as liaison to other minority educational organizations to develop mutually supporting policies and positions; confer with President and other administrative personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in strategies; serve as member of management committees on special studies; serve a liaison to HACU’s standing committees of the Governing Board; promote partnerships with federal agencies and refer related contacts for appropriate follow-up; supervise HACU programs based in the Washington DC office. Master’s degree in Public Administration, Higher Education or related field with extensive experience in federal relations and policy analysis, preferably in higher education or education-related issues. Experience and/or training at the federal/state level on issues impacting Hispanics in higher education. Knowledge should include familiarity with the process of legislation and federal appropriations. Experience in working with legislative assistants and governmental regulation writers is most appropriate. A Ph.D. in related discipline is highly desired. Spanish language proficiency highly desired. Must be able to travel frequently. (Located in Washington, DC) Director of Member Services: Carries out day-to-day activities as they relate to the recruitment and retention of national and international HACU-member institutions and affiliates consistent with established goals, objectives, scope, budget and policies. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Develop, implement and maintain membership recruitment and retention program; analyze, assess and report on membership growth and retention, and identify potential member and associate member institutions; serve as advocate for issues of concern to current members; develop and implement tools to measure member satisfaction; identify and recommend new types of membership or affiliation status for prospective HACU constituencies; prepare HACU Membership Directory and distribute; maintain Membership and other pertinent databases with up-to-date information; plan and execute new membership or affiliation initiatives in coordination with other appropriate HACU staff; organize, plan and coordinate Membership meetings at Annual Conferences; maintain liaison with colleges and universities to collect unpaid dues; participate, as approved, in committees within or beyond HACU, including professional organizations. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, four to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to travel and to work without close supervision on difficult and complex tasks. Strong computer capabilities and related information systems, and ability to use those systems. Spanish language skills required. (Located in San Antonio, TX) Member and Student Services Coordinator: Provides program coordination support, general administrative support and programmatic assistance for the Membership (60% of the time) and Student Services (40% of the time) Departments to allow them to meet stated goals. Specific responsibilities include coordination of specific program tasks related to membership, the corporate internship program, student track and scholarship processes and events, including, but not limited to, the following duties: Under the Member Services Department will research and enter information on membership database; assist with membership drive, mail-outs and the maintenance and updating of membership files/database; assist in the production of the Membership publications; work with Member Services and other departmental staff on various projects, as assigned. Under Student Services Department will help coordinate Student Track Scholarship Application and Selection Process; assist in Student Track Scholarship registration and travel logistics; assist Executive Director and Associate Director with recruitment for Student Services Student Track, scholarships, and corporate internships, including serving as primary back up staff on the scholarship program; coordinate online student resume database; assist with logistical arrangements for corporate interns’ travel; serves as recruiter for the HACU National Internship Program; conducts presentations on corporate and federal HNIP and Scholarship program components and benefits: provides administrative and logistical support to Student Services Executive and Associate Director for general and recruiting travel; assists with website updates for department. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; four to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic oral Spanish language skills required.
