HANG IN THERE HERO Hero is still in a critical condition but is in the best hands with our wonderful vets Josie, James, and Chris, and the dedicated vet nurses Sav, Laura, Amy and Hayley. He has suffered extensive abdominal bleeding, a fractured back leg and all up a huge amount of trauma to his poor little body. In the past few hours Hero has perked up and has some colour back in his gums, this is hopefully a sign that the internal bleeding has stopped. He is on IV fluids with added iron and adequate pain relief. Once the bleeding is under control we will move on to repairing his back leg. Whilst we are very hopeful from seeing his bright little eyes this afternoon there is no denying that Hero is still very much fighting for his life. Why is he named Hero? Why is he in such a state? A call was made to Willowite late last night from a beautiful, caring family asking for guidance with an injured piglet. Hero was found being stomped on again and again in a paddock by a herd of horses. It was very obvious that this paddock was no where near where Hero and his siblings lived. He was bitten and thrown in the air only to be chased again. This wonderful family came to Heros aid and kept the horses away whilst they caught the little guy. Horses can be known to go after anything they feel is a threat in their territory. The reason this guy is a true little hero... Whilst Hero was being trampled his siblings were able to run away, when the horses would chase them Hero would run in the opposite direction of his siblings and the horses would chase after him. He saved the lives of his brothers and sisters. We are doing everything we can to keep Hero comfortable and strong enough to fight. Whilst managing the ongoing veterinary costs that come with the sanctuary, Hero is going to have medical costs that we need your help with.
