HAPPINESS (2) ความสุข When people cannot detach themselves from greed and the unlimited desire for material possession, they ruin themselves in spirit and body. ถ้าเรามีแต่ความยึดมั่นและความต้องการอยู่ตลอดเวลาแล้ว ร่างกายและจิตใจก็จะล่มสลาย How tragic it is. Many are blinded by greed and temporal pleasures, losing sight of the true path to eternal happiness. การลุ่มหลงในความต้องการเฉพาะหน้านั้น เป็นการทำลายความสุขอันยั่งยืนด้วยน้ำมือของตนเองอย่างน่ากลัว Freedom of choice is given to everyone. Thus, we can create either a haven or hell, according to our own thinking. จิตใจของมนุษย์สามารถที่จะสร้างสวรรค์ก็ได้หรือจะสร้างนรกก็ได้ Two of the most common, characteristically human weaknesses are ego and possessiveness. In fact, they are so closely related they could be considered "brothers." Careful observation of any complicated, unsolved problem reveals that its reason almost always lies in these two "brothers." For example, some ego-driven public officials with an inordinate attachment to their offices are eventually forced to quit in disgrace. When business people place the pursuit of money and self-profit before the good of their company and fellow worker, they often lose their fortune for the long run. The over-possessiveness of one lover can actually cause the other to seek an end to the relationship. Individuals who make those around them suffer as a result of being obstinate and egocentric, eventually bring suffering for themselves as well. One of the major goals of religion is to help us rid ourselves of our over-indulgent egos and extreme attachments. Since I learned this truth, I have freed myself from a great deal of mental suffering, and in every area of life I have experienced good result. There is a saying, "Do not worry about either the past or the future." These are really wise words. (Teaching of Meishu-sama)
