HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUDDY WATERS: Heres my third posting about the great Muddy Waters, whose birthday (Rolling Fork, MS, in 1913) is today. Its another examination of his guitar playing. Muddy reminds us how much blues guitar players were once innovators. He is from a generation that expanded its use of tunings, experimented with distortion and pickups, developed a fuller ensemble sound, drew on world music for rhythmic inspiration and was determined to record songs linking his roots to the present day. He was, to put it simply, an artist. And a profoundly great one.
