HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RANDY BACHMAN! Born Randolph Charles Bachman on September 27th 1944 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He is the lead guitarist, a songwriter and a founding member of The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, aka:BTO. At age 3 he won a Canadian TV singing contest. At age 5 he started studying violin at the Royal Toronto Conservatory. At age 12 he got tired of the structured violin lessons and quit. Even though he couldnt read music he found that he had what he called a Phonographic Memory, because anything he heard once he could play. At 15 he saw Elvis on TV and learned three chords from his cousin on a dobro. Later in his 15th year we went to see Les Paul. He helped him pack up his equipment after the show and in return Les Paul sat down with the young Randy and taught him a few chords and how to play his song How High Is The Moon. Randy, who had always been a good student up until this time, had to repeat 10th and 11th grade, as all of his study time was now devoted to learning the guitar and he was either expelled or dropped out before he graduated (he later got his G.E.D. equivalency). At 17 in 1960 he formed, with Chad Allen, what would become The Guess Who. In 1973, with two of his brothers, Robbie and Tim, and 18 year old Fred Turner he founded Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Heres one of my favorite BTO tunes(TURN IT UP!!) Not Fragile.....Enjoy!
