HAPPY Holi !! “Holi” is the festival of colors and love. Holi celebrations start with a Holi bonfire (Holi pujan) on the night before Holi where people gather to pray to the fire and sing and dance. The next morning is the carnival of colours, where everyone plays with colours in the form of dry powder or coloured water. With water guns (pichkaris), water balloons and lots more. There is a symbolic legend to explain why holi is celebrated. The word Holi originates from Holika, the evil sister of demon king Hiranyakashyap. This has a mythological story of triumph of son “Prahlad” over “Holika” who has the boon of immunity against fire. But to lord’s grace, this did not happen and Prahlad returned alive from the pyre of fire. Hence after, the evening bonfire, the next day is celebrated with colors. Another mythological legend is the “Rang lila” of Radha and Shri Krishna. This has been a symbol of love and equality where all colors meet together without any hostility. Let come and play safe Holi and spread the cheers of love, respect and equality!!
