HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVE!!!! I hope everyone has a safe travel day. I can almost smell those pies baking in the over. Not to mention all the other food preparations. Is that gingerbread cookies I smell in the back of the room? Okay, okay - lets not get excited. I am sure there will be enough to go around for one and all. How about the weather? Well, a weak system will pass through the region today. Rain and snow will spread across the region this afternoon. Right now it appears that temperatures will be warm enough for mostly a rain event. I think the rain begins as snow or snow/rain mixed over parts of southern Illinois - north of Carbondale. Rain may mix with snow everywhere later this afternoon and evening. Eventually ending as light snow in most locations. This does not appear to be a real snow maker for the region. There could be a dusting or so of snow across parts of southern Illinois. This would most likely be along a line from Carbondale to Marion, IL (and the northward and northeastward). That line might shift southeast a bit later this evening. That would take it into Kentucky - along a line from Marion, Illinois towards Princeton and Madisonville. Iffy setup for accumulating snow. If it were to remain all snow then I could see a dusting to an inch or so. Really iffy on whether the rain wont win out with this one. Keep that in mind. I do remember a few of these systems producing more snow than rain. This usually happened because the atmospheric column cooled down enough to keep the precipitation snow longer than forecast. This usually occurs when precipitation is a bit heavier than what is expected today. Bottom line from all of that weather gibberish... Precipitation moves into the area this afternoon. It may be mixed with snow at times. Perhaps a dusting of snow over our northern counties and then southeast into parts of Kentucky late this afternoon and evening.. I am a bit more concerned about temperatures falling below freezing later tonight. If this does occur then we might see some patchy slick spots. This will be highly dependent on moisture remaining on roads as temperatures fall. Just keep that in mind. Thanksgiving will be dry and cold. WELL below normal temperatures once again. Highs will struggle to get out of the 30s. Go figure. Another cold day! Dry Friday, as well. A tad warmer for the weekend with temperatures approaching normal (gasp) levels. Perhaps even above normal on Sunday. Some light rain possible by Saturday night and Sunday. Okay - the blog has been updated. Shorter update today than usual. A little tired this morning. I did proofread through it once. :) There is a spot in the blog (right side) where you can subscribe to the blog. I will manually send out a blog update to your email when a bigger weather event is approaching. Be safe and have a great holiday. Blog weathertalk/november-26-2014-thanksgiving-eve/
