HARRY KALABA TOURS LUAPULA PROVINCE FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER Harry Kalaba says government is still committed to making sure that all peripheral areas are developed. Mr. Kalaba told K-FM NEWS in Milenge district yesterday that the patriotic front government is eager to pioneer development in the area. Mr. Kalaba said this is the more reason government has embarked on a massive project to link the whole country through the link Zambia 8000 will see the main roads connecting Milenge district to other surrounding districts worked on. He said the district has the potential to develop especially in the tourism and agriculture sectors if infrastructure development is enhanced. Milenge district has lagged behind in terms of development as most of its infrastructure In poor states. The minister was Speaking in Milenge district during a public fora to drum up support for Mumbotuta local government PF aspiring candidate Javerson Mumba. Meanwhile, Milenge District Council Secretary Caroline Mphande has commended the PF government for taking the responsibility to be settling monthly wages to council workers in division 1, 2 and 3. Mrs. Mphande says this has greatly reduced the challenges the local authority faces in meeting the wages of its workers. She said that the local authority has limited ventures from which it earns its revenue. Mrs. Mphande adds that due to the challenges associated to earning enough revenue, the local authority has failed to meet worker’s salaries in division four. She has revealed that her council has received its allocation of the 2014 Constituency Development Funds, CDF, and the timely disbursement of the fund will enable the quick implementation of projects. The council secretary adds that K250,000 has since been allocated for the completion of the council Rest House. And Milenge District Commissioner Jarvis Mutale says the district has so many challenges like accommodation which needs attention. He says due to the limited number of offices he has ended up occupying the office meant for the forestry department. And reacting to Mr. Mutale’s complaints Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba challenged the District Commissioner to remain proactive towards developing the district. Mr. Kalaba who is also Bahati constituency Member of Parliament says development can be enhanced if efforts to foster it are strengthened. Source: K-FM NEWS, Mansa.
