HASSAN SAFI NAQVI- THE GUIDING STAR OF CONTEMPORARY URDU - TopicsExpress

HASSAN SAFI NAQVI- THE GUIDING STAR OF CONTEMPORARY URDU POETRY. Keats, the famous romantic poet said in his poem “The Grecian Urn” ‘Beauty is Truth, Truth beauty that is all, ye know on earth and all ye need to know’ and by this he meant to say that beauty and truth are the integral parts of each other. This quotation from Keats fits most properly on Hassan Safi Naqvi’s poetry. He has integrated beauty and truth in his Urdu poetry in such a manner that these cannot be separated from each other. He has chosen human life in its rich variety, with its all ups and down, joys and sorrows, pleasures and pains, the hard and bitter facts and the romance prevalent in life but one thing remains dominant in all his subjects, that is the beauty of style, the arrangements and selection of such a diction that remains ever fragrant and pregnant with beauty. By the selection of varied life itself and the beauty of his expression he has intermingled both the theories of art i.e. Not only this but also he has combined the tradition (in the sense of old practice) and modernity in a masterly manner. Recitation of his poetry, his expression itself, even leaving awhile the subject matter, is so beautiful and full of all its sensuous pleasure. When you turn to the subject matter that he has chosen, you are made to realize at once what delicacies and complexities go hand in hand in his poetry. He is not taking, as most of us do, poetry only as a hobby but a devotion and the mission of his life. Although having a background in Science (Ph.D Chemistry), he has devoted himself entirely to poetry as its true worshipper. His poetry practically makes you to achieve the real aim of literature i.e. to teach and delight. After studying his poetry, you feel that you have become a bit more aware of life; it delicacies and complexities and you have a pure pleasure as well by coming into contact with beauty itself. I have no hesitation in saying that he is really a model and a guiding star in the contemporary Urdu poetry in particular and to all poetry in general. He also symbolizes the unity of tradition and individual talent which is exponent of the idea that tradition (old practice) and the individual talent (modernism) are not two different things but a continuity of the same thing. May he live long with his universal poetry Like · · Promote · Share
