HATHA YOGA AND ALCHEMY (RASAYANA) The Siddhas created and adopted Hatha yoga in their training also known as Kaya-sadhana (body cultivation). On the other hand, Hatha yoga was been explored and experimented by different yogis as a key component in the development of alchemy. This practice is known as rasayama. The two syllables of the word Ha-tha gained a deeper meaning in this practice and earned their place as the representatives of the micro-cosmic sun (Surya) and moon (Chandra) respectively, at the same time yoga became the union between these two principles. At the beginning these practices where done by mixing and ingesting minerals such as lead, mercury and gold. During this time many students got poisoned. Eventually this practice was internalized by the different physical and mental exercises developed in Hatha yoga. Surya (sun) represents fire, the heart, digestive system and prana. Chandra (moon) represents water, the liver, nervous system and chi. At the same time these practices were taking place in India, the Taoist in China were creating their own techniques under the Tao. They called these two principles yin and yang.
