HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A HONEY DITCH? If you had spent any time in Korea in the 60s, you would have heard of a Honey Ditch. For the rest of you, a Honey Ditch is called that because, the ditch is made up of human piss and shit. There, I said it! I had an up close and personal run in(so to speak) with a honey ditch! G.I.s had a twelve oclock curfew while on tour in Korea. If you were caught being out after curfew, bad punishment awaited you! I of course, had stayed in the village a bit too late, one night. Let me say, when twelve midnight comes, the Koreans shut the village down! Every light is out and, every home, house, gate and alleyway is locked tight!! Except for the moonlight, it is dark!! So, here I come making my way down some darken trail, trying to get on post without being caught. I then, hear a jeep coming up the trial and I know its the MPs! I began to run and I tried to jump over a wall, but the wall was covered with broken glass. I looked for an alley to duck into but there was none! As Im running I come across a small bridge. I dove into the ditch and ducked under the bridge. Im covered in human waste and other stuff that has no name! The jeep pulls onto the bridge and stops! I hear the guys in the jeep laughing as they yelled for me to come on out. Not only am I laying face down in shit but, Ive been busted too! I crawled out of the ditch thinking, well, there goes my stripes(I had two, at the time). Then I hear one of the MPs say, Belvin, is that you? One of the guys had gone through basic training with me. We both laughed and I got onto the back of the jeep and was taken back to the post, smelling like...........! Well!
