HE REPENTED IN TEARS TODAY AND COMMITTED THE SIN AFTER After David had the opportunity of killing Saul but tore only his cloths (1Sam. 24:4), Saul awoke from his sleep at the sound of David and discovered that David would had killed him but rather spared him alive, realized his guilt and cried in repentance (1Sam. 24:16), after his nice speech to David even made a covenant with him which David agreed to but immediately after some days he promised not to pursue David, he ‘...rose and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, with three thousand men of Israel, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph’. 1Sam. 26:2. Just like Saul, you might repent of a sin after a good sermon now and covenant with God that you won’t commit it again, and promise to turn a new leave but after your fasting of repentance, after your covenant with God, before you know it, you are deep into the very sin you had sought repentance about before God and men. Some has so fallen into sin after repenting severally that they no longer believe someone can be righteous and thus they give up on living righteously. The reason we keep falling to the very sin we often repented of is because we keep trying to be righteous, righteousness is not the result of our effort, that’s why we keep failing when we try by ourselves to be righteous. ‘For by strength shall no man prevail’ 1 Sam. 2:9. You don’t achieve righteousness by fasting and praying, you achieve simply by submitting to the righteousness of God, by declaring the Lordship of Christ over your entirety. None of us is strong enough to do and live righteousness, we all need to submit to the grace (imparted ability from God to us) of God to enable us overcome our former sinful nature. You can overcome that sinful habit; masturbation, drunkenness, drug- addictions, immoralities, and lying etc. if you can only declare the Lordship of Christ over your life and not trying to do it yourself.
