HE WENT on a short trip to meet some people – but he never returned home. Instead, Constable Thabo Mlotshwa (32), originally from Estcourt, was found buried in Mpola, near Mariann-hill on Wednesday. Mlotshwa was working for the police national intervention unit in Pinetown. He told his roommate last Friday that he was going to meet some people in Mpola but said he would return. He did not mention who the people were. The policeman left in his car. On his arrival he was allegedly approached by thugs who overpowered him and fired three shots at him. The men took his wallet, cellphone, bag and service pistol before burying his body in a shallow grave. His car was also taken by the killers. KZN police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said: “Cops recovered Mlotshwa’s abandoned car in Lindelani on Tuesday night. “They received a tip-off and went to a suspect’s house in Mpola where they found two spades, the late cop’s bag, firearm holster, a bloodstained curtain and muddied shoes.” Three more suspects were later arrested. The constable was dug out of a shallow grave. The four suspects will appear in the Pinetown Magistrates Court today. They all face a charge of murder.
