HEROIN BUST IN PHILIPSBURG By G. Kerry Webster The Philipsburg based state police at Bureau of Criminal Investigation/North Central Strike Force are investigating the sales of heroin from a Philipsburg business. Authorities began an investigation into the distribution of heroin in the Philipsburg area and surrounding communities. The investigation began in December 2013 and has continued to the present. During the investigations, troopers utilized surveillance to identify individuals selling and purchasing heroin from Rebel Towing, located along Curve Street in Philipsburg. Earlier this month, undercover troopers began making controlled purchases of heroin from the owner of the business, 33-year-old John Lorraine Bowes of Philipsburg, and an employee of the business, Walter Lee Wagner, 42, also of Philipsburg. The controlled buys were made at Rebel Towing and at 1492 Walton Street, where Bowes and Wagner resided. During the investigation, numerous customers who purchased heroin from the business were identified, along with sources of the heroin. On Tuesday, troopers applied for a received search warrants for Rebel Towing and the Walton Street residence. Troopers seized heroin, drug paraphernalia and approximately $21,000 in U.S. currency. Police are continuing to investigate. Authorities were assisted by the Office of Attorney General, State College; the Centre County District Attorney; the Clearfield County District Attorney; and Pennsylvania State Police.
