HHG/UB SHIPMENTS: Did you know that upon delivery of your household goods and/or unaccompanied baggage shipments you should immediately annotate any open or missing boxes from your inventory listing, personally inspect high value items, as well as annotate any obvious damage to items on the Joint Statement of Loss or Damage at Delivery (aka DD Form 1840/Form 1850) provided by the Transportation Service Provider (TSP) at delivery? For more information call DSN 738-8108/8212. ~ Les, Client Legal Services • In addition, you must notify the TSP of any loss or damage of property not initially noted at the time of deliver, within 75 days from the date of delivery using the Notice of Loss or Damage (aka DD Form 1840R/Form 1851) which was provided by the TSP at delivery. On both forms, you should properly describe the item, list its inventory number, and fully record the nature and location of new damage. General comments only stating "damaged" or "broken" are not acceptable. • You can submit your DD Form 1840/1840R or Form 1850/1851 directly with the TSP either electronically (recommended) at move.mil (register/login to DPS), or by regular mail or e-mail directly to the TSP within 75 days from the date of delivery; or you can submit your DD Form 1840/1840R or Form 1850/1851 to your local Military Claims Office (MCO) within 70 days from the date of delivery. • Finally, completing and submitting DD Form 1840/1840R or Form 1850/1851 does NOT mean you have submitted a claim, but rather that you have just given notice of loss or damage to the TSP. You must still submit a claim to receive compensation for your lost or damaged items.
