HIGH COST: Smoking costs Wales’ economy more than £700 million a year, a new study says. According to a report by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) Wales, smokers’ habits are putting pressure on businesses and the NHS. The charity said smoking is responsible for a £302 million annual outlay on health care, £288 million lost to productivity through premature deaths and £49.5 million through excess sickness absence.
