HIGH LEVEL JAPANESE DELEGATION ARRIVES IN GRENADA FOR 15TH ANNUAL OECS MINISTERIAL SUMMIT ON SUSTAINABLE USE OF LIVING MARINE RESOURCES: ST. GEORGES, GRENADA, MONDAY, MAY 26, 2014 - GIS: _ High level Japanese delegation is in Grenada for the 15th Annual Ministerial Meeting on Sustainable Use of Living Marine Resources. The meeting convenes at the Flamboyant Hotel and Villas, on May 27th and 28th 2014. This meeting, the third of its kind to be held in the Spiceisle, will provide opportunities for Ministers with responsibility for Fisheries, Commissioners and Fisheries Officials in the OECS to discuss a wide range of issues relating to the management and development of fisheries in the OECS with a view of putting in place policies and interventions that are necessary for the continued development of the fishing industry and the region’s people. Among the Japanese delegation is Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Takao Makino, Japans’ Ambassador to the OECS, His Excellency Yoshimasa Tezuka and other top Japanese Government officials. The meeting also brings together representatives from six OECS Member States namely Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines Suriname and host country Grenada. Among the highlights of this year’s summit would be a special message from Grenada’s Minister of Fisheries Hon. Roland Bhola who would deliver the feature address when the summit officially opens on Tuesday. Grenada and Japan like many of the OECS Islands would have enjoyed a healthy bi-lateral relationship over the years. Grenada is the beneficiary of several social and economic development initiatives from the Japanese Government especially in the area of Fishing and capacity building.
