HIV and your CDA (T cell) count HIV attacks the CD4 cells in your booldstream. The CD4 cells try to resist but cannot and are destroyed. Your CD4 cells grow fewer and fewer .When other infections or diseases attack your body, there are too few CD4 cells to resist. Your healthcare provider will do a boold test to learn your CD4 count. Your CD4 count is the number of CD4 cells in a sample of blood. The lower your CD4 count, the greater your chances of getting sick with other infections or diseases. Knowing your CD4 count will help you and your healthcare provider decide when you should start HIV treatment
