HMRC unveils list of tax evaders HMRC has published its latest list of ‘tax cheats’ – including a hairdresser, takeaway shopkeeper and car salesman – who combined owe the taxman more than £30m in unpaid tax. The worst offender was Saad Victoria, a Manchester-based food and wine merchant, that owed £29.7m in unpaid tax. The business went into liquidation in May, under its most recently listed company director Wakil Abdul. Also named on the list are Tyrone engineer Karol Ruddy (owes £55,000), Nottingham subcontractor Patrick Sean Devine (owes £14,000), Littleborough dealer James McGrath (owes £14,000) and kitchen designer Paul James (owes £19,000). HMRC’s Jennie Granger, Director General for Enforcement and Compliance, said the Revenue did not take publishing taxpayers names and addresses lightly. “We are publishing the names of tax cheats as it lets the community know we are tackling this and encourage others to get back on track,” she said.
