HOCKEY: It didnt take the Westport Rideaus long to spoil the Brockville Tikis bid to move into first place in Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League Rideau Division standings on Friday night. The Tikis were looking to take advantage of a 9-3 loss suffered Thursday by the Prescott Flyers and slip past the Flyers into top spot, but Westport scored three times in the first period and went on to dump the Tikis 6-1. Prescott (6-2-0-1) and Brockville (6-3-0-1) remain tied with 13 points, four more than both the Gananoque Islanders (4-4-0-1), who downed the Winchester Hawks 5-4 in overtime Friday night, and the Rideaus (4-6-0-1). Alex Slessor scored three times for the home-ice Rideaus, with Skylar Choffe, Johnny Moor and Connor Jung netting one goal apiece. John Kalivas scored Brockvilles lone goal early in the second period to make the score 3-1 at the time. Westport outshot Brockville 40-33 in the game, but the Tikis outshot the Rideaus 12-7 in a third period in which Brockville was outscored 2-0. In Winchester, the Islanders fell behind 4-3 with about seven minutes left in the third period, but a goal by Hunter Drew with just 58 seconds remaining to tie the game and an overtime marker by Jacob Denofreo 3:29 into the extra frame gave the visitors a 5-4 win. It was the fourth time Gananoque had a game go into extra play, and three times the Islanders have won (two shootout victories and now an OT triumph). Denofreos OT goal was his second tally of the game. Also scoring for the Islanders were Jakob Irwin and David Leung. Replying for Winchester, which led 3-2 after one period but was tied 3-3 heading into the third, were Bryden Van Kessel, with a pair of goals, Josh Stubbings and Alex St. Marsaille. Van Kessels second goal, 12:51 into the third, had given the Hawks a 4-3 lead. Winchester, which sits second in the St. Lawrence Division, outshot the Islanders 34-31 in the game. On Thursday night, Prescott had a tough time with the undefeated St. Lawrence Division-leading Casselman Vikings (8-0-0-0). Casselman scored the first six goals of the game before the 15-minute mark of the second period and cruised to the win. Nicolas Brazeau scored four goals and added an assist for the Vikings, while Maxime Choquette also had five points (2G, 3A). Sebastien Plante also scored twice, with Grant Hebert netting the other goal. For Prescott, which was outshot 46-20, Johnny Smith, Stephen Croley and Chris Poulin scored.
